I had such a wonderful time at TomeCon 18 that I wanted to post a little bit about my day to thank all the wonderful students and teachers I met down in Georgia. I had a very full day doing five presentations for both elementary and middle-high school students on setting and world building in fantasy novels. They were great talks, and I found the questions and input from all the students thoughtful and engaging.
In between the book talks, I had the wonderful opportunity to meet some of my fans who read The Silver Gate as a part of the Tome IT list for 2017. It was a thrill for me to meet such enthusiastic readers who were clearly very passionate and excited about all the books they read.
One of my favorite fans I met was this amazing girl who came to TomeCon dressed as Wynn, complete with Mildred. Her costume was fantastic, and I was so happy to meet her. I also had a chance to see some wonderful fan art, including this picture of Elric and Wynn that won a fan art contest! I had a wonderful time. It is one of the best events I have participated in as an author, and I am so grateful to the dedicated team of organizers and volunteers that pulled together to create such a fantastic event for young readers. I hope I can come down to Georgia for another TomeCon in the future.
I’m looking forward to meeting all the students for TomeCon tomorrow. We’ll be talking about Settings in books, and I can’t wait to meet everyone. See you there!
I will be attending the Tome Student Lit Society event in Georgia this Spring. I’m thrilled to be doing presentations on setting and World Building for students at the event.
